Help us identify the next visionary leaders in the zoo and aquarium community. Nominations for the 2025 Professional Troublemakers of the Year are now open. We invite you to nominate someone who exemplifies bold leadership, challenges the status quo, and drives transformative change.
How Are Honorees Selected?
A volunteer selection committee of ECHO community members—including past conference attendees and digital conversation partners—will evaluate nominations using the following criteria:
- Vision and Commitment to Transformation
- Challenging Assumptions
- Embracing Transparency and Collective Learning
- Encouraging Productive Dialogue and Experimentation
- Acting as a Catalyst for Meaningful Change

Honoree Recognition
Honorees will be announced in September and will receive sponsored attendance to the following summer’s ECHO conference, where they will join a community of thought leaders dedicated to driving meaningful, lasting transformation.

How to Submit a Strong Nomination

Great nominations don’t just praise—they tell a compelling story with concrete examples of the nominee’s impact. Keep your nomination concise (400-600 words, about one page) and align it with the selection criteria.
- Tell a clear, compelling story – Highlight their vision, bold actions, and measurable impact.
- Address the award criteria – Use the rubric to show how they challenge assumptions and drive change.
- Use specific examples – Show, don’t just tell—illustrate their influence with real stories.
- Keep it structured and concise – Well-organized nominations stand out.
